You probably can JB Weld the magnets in place after a good cleaning with carburetor cleaner . You can get the gearbox rebuild kit, and then you will have a spare for the next time one of those motors gives you trouble.

Yesterday I came in and found a note from the night shift sawyer that he had changed out the edger saw. I could not figure out why because it had been cutting real good. Anyway the one that he put on was diving in even a 6” wide cut making a second flattening cut necessary before taking a bean out of the log. Today I put on the first of three 40’ logs. To cut them the edger has to come in from the side make the cut and raise the main saw out of the cut at the far end. On the first log the edger dove bad wile making a 10” beam, I had to back up six times during the cut. The teeth were blunt so ground the heels down. Second log it cut the way, so put new teeth in the saw. Third log it cut the same way so I pulled the edger off and put a fresh edger on. On closer inspection of the bad edger saw, I hound a crack all the way around the saw going from screw pocket to screw pocket. The crack was an old one and was more then likely the reason the saw had been pulled off and sent to the saw doc in the first place, and had just been over looked. Got some big logs lined up to see how this edger runs, it had been over heated before being sent to the saw doc.

What a science.

You have a great ability to identify the root cause of a problem. That is a great skill to have.
They are lucky to have you.

When you truly understand a machine, you become a part of it. Steve, you are doing the same thing with the mill that your are building. ;)

I'll bet that with a little finger nail sharpining BW could cut more lumber by hand than most of us using our power tools! :work

I had a blade break nothing out of ordinary, last cut on a spruce cant i was making and i changed to another re-sharp and blade took a major dive on first cut. So i figured guide roller got knocked out of whack. Corrected all the obvious trued and leveled, 2nd try blade shot straight up. What the heck is going on. Now i think i have tracking problem so back to square 1. I re-do everything even band wheels. Everything looked good nothing out of whack. But this time i take spruce cant off and grabbed a cedar, Thinking in the back of my mind it couldnt be compression on a spruce.Sure enough thats what it was, cedar logs sliced right up.So i cut 3 ' off 16' spruce it was all hacked up from retrieving my blade three times anyway. So I continued to finish cutting the spruce it went through but had a few waves. So i guess my mill issue was sometimes the log will win, That spruce kicked my butt!

I once changed a band and accidentally got it under the LubeMizer nozzle. It was riding on it instead of the roller guide. Talk about sawing squirrely. I ruined the nozzle before I finally noticed what was wrong.

I don't like that compression wood. I have a customer with a six foot butt log that is 48" dia. and am not looking forward to cutting it.
