Not a sawing day today, but a cleaning up day. My Son took the backhoe and dug a good sized receiving pit. We were just too busy to notice the buzzing before both of us were wrapped up with yellowjackets. I don't know their habitat range, but for those who don't have them, they are a relatively small vicious ground dwelling bee/wasp. They are ferocious when it comes to stinging. We were both wearing shorts so they had easy targets. Yes, multi-multiple stings for both of us.

I got a call today from the church camp that my boy had been stung by a yellow jacket. Those things can be aggressive and when feeding on meat they can pack a punch. Grandma’s cure for them was a wad of chew packed on the sting.

I don't like being on defensive with Yellow Jackets, they most always are on the winning side and I'm on the running side. It can be serious for those who are allergic to them. I try to keep some Benadryl around.

My legs are swollen and itching this morning. I haven't talked with Mo. He was stung many more times than I was. He poured gasoline down the hole which should have taken care of them.

It amazes me just how fast an "ole fart" like us can run when the bees are after us!

We even get away to a safe zone and we're not even breathing hard.

Go figure!
I love my sawmill

Except when I got to a safety zone, I had been stung only once. That's when the fun began.

Note to myself: Safety zone needs to be further away from the nest. :o

Yesterday I was opening up a big door on the shop so that I could get to the grain bin with the forklift, well the door has been dragging all winter and now that the ground is hard it was not wanting to open up so it was shaking the building a bit. Next thing I know I am getting dive bombed by something unknown. After a few times I stepped back a bit to see what was going on and found a whole swarm of yellow jackets coming out of a crack in the wall, so I stepped back a bit further. Then I got a can of bee spray and soaked them down real good. Then I adjusted the door a bit so that it dose not drag the ground quite as much. The real fix is to re-hang the door a couple inches higher. There were no bees flying today when I checked on them. Even with curious kids no one got stung.
